Places of interest such as castles, palaces, Royal Deeside and Braemar are all close by. Perthshire is also a haven for walkers, cyclists and those interested in fishing, shooting and winter skiing.
Pitlochry Festival Theatre which is situated within the town, hosts many West End standard productions throughout the year and is a major draw to the area with people travelling from far and wide to enjoy a wealth of productions and shows. From mid-October to mid-November the Enchanted Forest, regarded as Scotland’s best outdoors light & sound show takes place in Faskally Wood near Pitlochry. The stunning mountain and mixed woodland scenery of Highland Perthshire with its many lochs, rivers and waterfalls has been well mapped for walkers and mountain-bikers. The Pitlochry Golf Club, home of the Highland Open, is just 2 minutes up the road from Torrdarach House and this also offers great views over the town and down the Tummel Valley.
Torrdarach meaning, “Hill of the Oak “- the house was built as a summer residence in 1901 for a Mr William Briggs Esq & Jane, his Wife. In 1900, William Briggs founded William Briggs & Sons Ltd, the company were pioneers of fuel oil and a Bitumen roof system.
Owned and operated by our clients since 2013, the fine Edwardian property, has seen a high level of investment made within the property, gardens and grounds. Throughout, it is evident that the current owners have invested heavily to ensure that they provide an experience of quality and comfort for their guests. Offering a wealth of period features such as immaculate cornice work, sweeping stairs and beautifully restored period windows the house has a real sense of heritage and tradition running throughout. While the magnificent gardens, of just under an acre of splendid woodland, contains its own burn and some great examples of the ‘Big Trees’ for which Highland Perthshire is so famous including oak, beech, cedar, scots pine, ash, noble fir and Douglas fir.
By paying close attention to detail and by being sympathetic to the period of the house, the vendors of Torrdarach House have managed to get the balance right of the demands of the modern traveling public whilst upgrading and often enhancing the period features and overall charm of Torrdarach House. A major benefit to the house has been the installation of a high quality conservatory breakfast room. With the impressive grounds dropping away from below the breakfast room, buyers cannot fail to be impressed with the outlook which gives a true botanical feel and even a chance of spotting the Red Squirrels or deer.
What is offered to guests today at Torrdarach House is outstanding 4 Star Gold bed & breakfast which stands clearly as one of the leading business of its type in the Perthshire area. With the high level of customer service and the stunning location along with the overall quality of the house, our clients have enjoyed healthy levels of income which have been growing year on year since taking over the business. However, it should be noted that the vendors have chosen to operate this most impressive business on a restricted basis to suit their personal lifestyle preferences.
New owners could quite quickly increase turnover at the business by opening longer hours (currently open on the 2nd weekend in February and continue with weekends only until the end of March when the business fully opens. The vendors close again on Halloween). In addition, turnover could be increased by offering lunches, cream tea or evening meals while new owners could also consider accepting more, and often high value, one night stays at the business along with making more use of the license to sell alcohol.
Over recent years the vendors have considered adding additional letting accommodation within the grounds of Torrdarach House. To one side of the house, the original Victorian annexe, has been converted into a stunning en-suite letting bedroom. The highly popular Bothy offers double bed, flat screen TV with DVD, luxury shower room and has a private courtyard with teak table and chairs. Due to the market response, new owners may wish to create similar next to The Bothy.
Overall the sale of Torrdarach House represents a fabulous opportunity for a couple or family to take over the reins of one of Pitlochry, s finest 4-star Gold B&B operations’. Viewing is essential to fully appreciate the standard of property, grounds and quality of location on offer.
